ABOUT ME

I am undoubtedly a product of where I was raised.  Memphis has deep historical roots, and so do I.  I grew up in a city steeped in history and grew to love it.  My family and I were active in our church, and that's where I first fell in love with teaching.  I started teaching class when I was fifteen and never stopped.  I still have that love for history.  During my undergraduate studies, I dove headlong into any research project I was given, quickly finding myself lost in another time.  That love for history drives me to instill it in others.  I truly believe that studying history makes you a better person.  It is impossible to come into contact with the letters of Lincoln, the recollections of Holocaust Jews, or the tales of life in the trenches in WWI and not walk away changed.  History erases immaturity and removes prejudices.  It removes the blinders from our eyes and puts us all on an equal playing field as members of mankind.

I met my wife during my freshman year (her sophomore year) of college.  She and I were both members of the children's theatre troupe The Pied Pipers.  During my senior year, I asked her to marry me and she said, "Yes!"  We were married a few weeks following my graduation and spent the summer working at the Day Camp Directors at a faith based camp in Arkansas.  Now, we are living happily in Memphis, Tennessee.  She is a third grade teacher, and I am a part-time children's minister and a full-time graduate student working on a Masters of Arts in Teaching.  We are both excited for me to finally enter the classroom as a teacher, myself.

Ethics in History This is a category of my own divining.  It combines my training in religion with my training in history and views the world through the lives of great men, great tragedies, and great triumphs.  Using these as case studies, the study engages in a pursuit to divine the true nature of man and the ethics involved in interacting with others in order to promote a better society.

Ancient and Classical History This era in history includes everything from the dawn of time to the fall of the Roman Empire in 1453

American History This era begins with the discovery of the Americas and continues on into the present period of time

Military History This category is a specific study of all of history through the eyes of war; this leads to a great many discussions on the nature of man.  War is very much the crucible of humanity.
