JOHN L. FRIZZELL

History can be a dark place, but it also has infinite power. By stepping into the lives and events of peoples and civilizations long gone, we can grow as individuals. History informs our present, but without a proper guide, a study of history can quickly become distressing. I aim to carefully guide others through these times of tribulation and times of great joy in order to develop an informed worldview and to instill a strong desire to be better than those who have gone before us.

As a student of history, I have spent much a great deal of time focusing on how best to communicate the ideas and findings from my research. Accordingly, I wrote extensively during my years as an undergraduate history major; many of these papers have been published in various journals or magazines. In addition to doing my own research, I served for three years as the head copy editor for my University's academic journal for historical research, Tenor of Our Times. The volumes on which I personally worked are volumes III, IV, and V. Volume IV was awarded third place in a national competition for historical undergraduate journals and volume V was awarded first place the following year. These journals can be found here.
WORKING WITH CHILDREN

All throughout college, I was involved in a improvisational children's theatre troupe called "The Pied Pipers." We performed for K-8 students; in a year we would perform for a total of 25,000 children all over the country as well as internationally. We wrote stories, sang songs, and got students excited about life. This group shaped me more than any other, teaching me that "it's okay to be different" and that inside, we all need encouragement and affirmation. These experiences taught me how to walk into any room and hold the students' attention.

I am currently employed as a children's minister with the Highland Church of Christ. As a minister, I help the rest of my team plan and lead events. I have learned a lot about patience, thinking on your feet, organization, team work, and training children to grow up into healthy adults and teenagers. I love assisting my students in discovering who they want to be and helping them to become that person. I have lots of fond memories from my experiences with Highland Church of Christ -- this work taught me and continues to teach me valuable skills.
